Ever since I was a child, I’ve been obsessed with books and reading. Every Christmas and every birthday, all I’d ever ask for was books, books and more books.
I loved travelling to an alternate universe, to an imaginary land far away, following the adventures of unique characters.
Not much had changed today. Anytime I’m alone, you will find me in a cafe with a novel in my hand, or spending hours and hours at a bookstore, buying more books that I can possibly read.
I know that times have changed, and many people now prefer listening to audiobooks while out for a run, or reading their latest novel on kindle. I have tried to embrace technology, but nothing beats the smell of a new book, and the ability to earmark the page I last landed on.
Something about feeling the texture of the book, and seeing the words printed on a page just elevates your reading experience to another level.
So if you haven’t picked up a book in a while, I encourage to give it a try. Its one of the most relaxing and enjoyable things you can do.
Whether you like fantasy novels, memoirs, thrillers, or poetry, you will find something for you.
Learn something new, broaden your horizons, explore new lands and cultures. Take a break from technology, and go back to the old paperback.
Next time you are tempted to binge watch 10 seasons of your favourite show over the weekend, trying picking up a book instead, a real one!
Trust me, it beats being glued to your screen- it’s a decision you will not regret.
