When inspiration strikes...

Have you ever had a moment when you woke up in the middle of the night because a creative idea just popped into your head? Fumbling about in the dark, you hurriedly look for a piece of paper and a pen, to then only realize that you could have just jotted it down on your phone!

Inspiration seems to strike for me the moment I shut my eyes every night. For others, they are inspired first thing in the morning, or when they go out jogging or walking.

Inspiration works differently for each one of us, but we all experience it the same way.

The challenge is what we end up doing after we get inspired. Do we actually follow through with the idea that just happened to materialize into our heads? Or do we get excited about it for a few moments, and then push it aside and go back to our mundane existences (I know, this is a very grim view of the world- but sometimes life does seem quite mundane!).

Two years ago, I decided that I was finally going to follow my dream of writing my first novel. The ideas kept flowing, and I kept changing the direction- from the theme to the storyline, the genre all-together. Little by little, life got in the way, inspiration faded, and the manuscript is lying somewhere on my desktop waiting to be completed.

A few nights ago, as I was thinking about how I was going to revive my excitement about my novel again, I received an idea for a second one! At first, I rolled my eyes. I am such a systematic person; I need to finish one task before I move on to another one. This was not going to work!

But guess what? Creativity and inspiration do not work that way. When inspiration hits, you have to embrace it!

And so now I am working on both novels at the same time- and I couldn't be more excited about publishing both of them one day.

I hope that when inspiration strikes, wherever or whenever that may be, that you embrace it too.
